Extrusion Technology to meet all your needs

 

When communicating, the most important thing is speaking the same language. This rule also applies when studying new projects together. This is the reason why at Sampsistemi, one of the main market leaders in the wire and cable machinery manufacturing industry, they not only talk about revolutions per minute and linear speeds, but they first of all focus on the required quality of the final product, on the most efficient process to reach it and on the desired productivity of a manufacturing line. 

The ability to speak the same language stems from over 20 years of extrusion know-how, during which Sampsistemi Extrusion, a company of the Sampsistemi Group, has installed more than 500 extruders all over the world, going from the insulation of micro-coaxial and LAN cables in the order of a few hundredths of a millimeter up to HV sheathed cables with a diameter above 200 mm and different insulating materials and processes.

Starting from the datacom field, Sampsistemi extrusion lines have been carefully designed in tandem with drawing and annealing machines in order to reach the maximum speed possible in producing a high-performance LAN cable through physical foaming insulation with polyethylene (PE) and fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) with 2 layers (foam/skin) and 3 layers (skin/foam/skin) plus striping.

Over the years, Sampsistemi Extrusion has developed an automatic quick color change system for “0-scrap”, which is currently used by many customers in the automotive sector. In addition, with the development of a large variety of compounds, the Italian company has launched a number of solutions dedicated to the vulcanization of insulated wires. Sampsistemi Extrusion can process both materials that cross-link through silanization and peroxide-based products.

Different technologies are available with the cross-linked PE (XLPE) obtained through silanization, according to customers’ applications and needs, just like volumetric dosing solutions and gravimetric dosing systems with liquid silane injection for the on-board extruder mixing. All of these solutions have been carefully engineered in order to supply customers with the right type of cable according to the most demanding market requests.

Furthermore, many tailor-made solutions have been developed for peroxide cross-linking compounds (peroxide XLPE) with continuous vulcanization line (CV tube) and the highest speed available on the market. The Sampsistemi Chameleon is a prime example of it: a patented solution engineered for process changeover from striping to non-striping without any line stopping, therefore allowing customers to save money, raw materials and time.

However, the CV line is not the only solution Sampsistemi Extrusion has developed for insulation material curing. In order to deal with the increasing demand for natural and silicone rubbers, a number of plants with salt baths with and without pressure has been produced, thus guaranteeing production at the maximum speed allowed by the materials themselves.

Additionally, the company is active in the field of high-temperature cables, where resins like X-ETFE (Cross-linked ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene), FEP, PFA and PEEK are among the most demanded. Sampsistemi has therefore studied and engineered dedicated solutions to simplify their processing, without compromising the quality of the final product. Also for sheathing lines, which were the pièce de résistance of the historical company De Angeli (bought by Sampsistemi back in 1997), the Italian company has developed innovative solutions, just like the heavy-duty portal PT 5000 for high-voltage cables, which has a maximum capacity of 5 m reels and 70 tons.

For each and every of the applications mentioned above, Sampsistemi Extrusion carefully designs and manufactures all machines: extruders 25d and 32d with screw diameters from 35 mm to 160 mm, including pay-offs from 250 mm to 5000 mm, high-speed dual automatic take-ups, vertical and horizontal accumulators, capstans and caterpillars.
